THROUGH THE YEARS
Italinteriors has long been a cornerstone of contemporary design in Toronto. In 1979, Tita Trevisan acquired what was then a small design company based in Yorkville. With family in Italy who worked within the clothing and furniture industry for almost over a century, Tita had a passion for Italian craftsmanship and modern design from the start, and saw an opportunity to create something lasting. A year later, he and Hillary Wright partnered with Bruce Kuwabara to renovate the Bay Street showroom, that would start a collaboration that would continue to last though the years.
In 1984, the company made a bold move to 359 King Street East — at the time, an overlooked warehouse area far from the city’s cultural core. The building, a former lumber yard once home to the Reid Lumber Company, was transformed. The new design preserved the raw honesty of the space while introducing an elegant architectural clarity, and became one of the first anchors (along with Klaus Neinkamper) in what would eventually evolve into Toronto’s vibrant Design District.
In 2003, the showroom underwent a significant transformation, with the removal of the former warehouse section and the careful preservation of its historic exterior — a façade that still stands proudly today. Inside, the space was reimagined with a contemporary feel, resulting in a renewed and refined environment that thoughtfully bridges its architectural heritage with the evolving language of modern design.
Today, our King Street East showroom continues to embody the core values that have defined Italinteriors for over four decades: timeless aesthetics, uncompromising quality, and a seamless dialogue between tradition and innovation.
